AME-CTE - Dance/Choreography 112A Pathway Courses

THE FOUNDATIONS OF DANCE (HSFD)  

A UC/CSU A-G F course

The Foundations of Dance is a mandatory course for new Dance Majors.  It is appropriate for the student with little, to no dance experience.  The objective of this course is to develop the student's knowledge and appreciation of dance through the study and exploration of selected dance forms including, but not limited to ballet, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, jazz and various social dances.

DANCE 1 (HSDN1)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSFD or Instructor Approval

Dance 1 is designed for intermediate students with prior dance experience.This course includes demonstration, verbalization, and identification of dance movements/terminology, as well as a composition component in a variety of genres.  Emphasis will be placed on Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetic Valuing, and Connections Relations and Application.  Students achieve advanced proficiency in these standards through technique training, teacher and student choreography projects, development of stage presence, and studio etiquette.  Students will compose and informally perform as individuals and as members of small and large ensembles

Students achieve advanced proficiency in these standards through technique training, teacher and student choreography projects, development of stage presence and studio etiquette.  Student artists will compose and informally perform as individuals and as members of small and large ensembles.

Ballet Technique and Performance (HSDNB)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSDN2 or Instructor Approval

 

This Ballet Technique and Performance class is designed to train intermediate and advanced dance students with prior dance experience.  This course includes demonstration, verbalization, and identification of dance movements/terminology, as well as a composition component in a variety of Classical Dance Styles such as Ballet, Lyrical and Contemporary.  Emphasis will be placed on Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetic Valuing, and Connections Relations and Application. Students achieve advanced proficiency in these standards through technique training, teacher and student choreography projects, development of stage presence and studio etiquette.  Students will compose and informally perform as individuals and as members of small and large ensembles.

Choreographic Process (HSDNCh)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSDN2 or Instructor Approval

 

This Choreographic Process class is designed to train advanced dance students with prior dance experience.  This course includes exploration of movement, improvisation techniques, and guided practice in choreography.  Emphasis will be placed on Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetic Valuing, and Connections Relations and Application.  Students achieve advanced proficiency in these standards through student choreography projects, development of stage presence and studio etiquette. Student artists will compose and formally perform as individuals and as members of small and large ensembles created solely by themselves or other classmates. 

Dance Company (HSDNCo)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSDN2 or Instructor Approval

 

This dance class is designed to train intermediate and advanced dance students with prior dance experience. Dance Company is a performance based class that demands student artists to attend all rehearsals, dance shows, competitions, community events, and field trips. This course includes demonstration, verbalization, and identification of dance movements/terminology, as well as a composition component in a variety of  Dance styles such as Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip hop and Jazz. Emphasis will be placed on Artistic Perception, Creative Expression, Auditioning, Historical and Cultural Context, Aesthetic Valuing, and Connections Relations and Application. Students achieve advanced proficiency in these standards through technique training, teacher and student choreography projects, guest choreographer training, development of stage presence and studio etiquette.  Student artists will compose and perform as individuals and as members of small and large ensembles.
