AME-CTE - Vocal Music 112A Pathway Courses

THE FOUNDATIONS OF VOCAL MUSIC (HSMV)  

A UC/CSU A-G F course

This course for beginning vocal music students who've had little or no prior vocal music education or training, and is designed to teach the students the fundamental concepts of music and singing. It includes a basic overview of music principles including note identification, key and time signatures, scales, notation, and composition as well as the basic techniques of singing and performance. 

VOICE1 (HSMV1)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSMV or Instructor Approval

Voice 1 is designed for beginning vocal music students to teach basic music theory and vocal performance technique.  This course will develop student’s musical literacy and creativity through written, aural, and analytical assignments designed to prepare them for further musical study.  Students will work on self-improvement by fostering and developing greater self-awareness, confidence, and musical expression.

VOICE 2 (HSMV2)

A UC/CSU A-G F course

Prerequisite: HSMV1 or Instructor Approval

Voice 2 is designed for intermediate to advanced voice students and focuses continued development of vocal pedagogy, rehearsal, and performance practices. A variety of vocal literature and musical styles will be studied and examined including but not limited to Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, and Musical Theatre. Students will develop their own individual style through self-reflection, peer reviews, and performance.

Prerequisite: HSMV2 or Instructor Approval

 

This course is designed for advanced voice students focusing on the continued development of vocal pedagogy, rehearsal, and performance practices. A variety of vocal literature and musical styles will be studied and examined including but not limited to Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, and Musical Theatre.  Students will develop their own individual style through self-reflection, peer reviews, and performance.  Upon completion of this course, students will have an advanced understanding of vocal production, breath support, diction, and stylistic nuances and performance practices of a wide variety of styles, as well as experience singing harmony with a small ensemble.

DIGITAL ARTS 2 (HSDA2) - Intermediate Digital Arts

Prerequisite: HSDA1 or Instructor Approval

 

Digital Arts 2 is a project-based course, focusing on Intermediate to Advanced computer graphics and design concepts. including, but not limited to, digital illustration, graphic design, photography, animation, typography, and product design. 


Additionally, this class emphasizes the importance of strong foundational skills, the creative process, visual communication, artistic expression, and how artists should conduct themselves in a professional studio environment.  

DIGITAL ARTS 3 (HSDA3) - Advanced Digital Arts 

Prerequisite: HSDA2 or Instructor Approval

Digital Arts 3 is an Advanced Computer Graphics and Design project-based course with an emphasis on the development of professional quality portfolio work.
